The “Souza” sign hanging modestly over the central bay of the first-floor window on Bradford Street (just visible in the photograph) is one of the most historical in town; in the sense of describing a family presence stretching back at least eight-and-a-half decades, to 1930, when the widow Phoebe C. (DeSilva) Souza (1891-1956) was living here with her young sons Joseph Souza (b ±1923) and John F. Souza (b ±1927). The resident in recent years has been her great-grandson [?] John F. Souza III (b 1989).
