The founder of the Girl Scouts troop of Provincetown, Mabel K. (Williams) Rich-Nelson (1906-2000), made her home here with her first husband, Fred S. Rich (1904-1960), a mechanic. Her second husband was Clarence Nelson, whom she married in 1964. She was still a teenager in 1924 when her father, John Campbell Williams, a member of the Boston Harbor Police, was appointed chief of the Provincetown Police Force and the family moved to the Cape. Four years later, Mabel started the scouting troop. She loved playing the organ and embroidering, her obituary in The Cape Cod Times said. Edward Y. Lee of Boston bought the property in 2012.
