LCDR Frederick Addison Sparks (1879-1919) | Gifford.

In 1916, Lieutenant Commander Sparks nearly lost his father, Charles Addison Sparks (1853-1925), to the sea. And he did lose his first cousin, once removed, Capt. Benjamin F. Sparks (1850-1916). Three years later, he too disappeared. “He and his engineer, Albert A. Ferris, were commissioned to take a motor yacht from Plymouth to Boston, a trip of just a few hours,” The Sparks Quarterly, a family newsletter, recalled in 1979. “They left for Boston on Wednesday afternoon, telling their wives that they would be home that night. On Friday, the yacht was picked up in the bay about halfway between Plymouth and Boston. The men were nowhere to be found.” [Lot No. 226.]
