William J. Mann (b 1961) is one of the most prolific and best-known contemporary writers in Provincetown. His nonfiction works include Tinseltown: Madness, Morphine and Murder at the Dawn of the Movies (2014), Hello Gorgeous: Becoming Barbra Streisand (2012), How to be a Movie Star: Elizabeth Taylor in Hollywood (2009), Kate: The Woman Who Was Hepburn (2006), Edge of Midnight: The Life of John Schlesinger (2005), Behind the Screen: How Gays and Lesbians Shaped Hollywood (2001), and Wisecracker: The Life and Times of William Haines (1998). Fiction includes Object of Desire (2009), All American Boy (2005), and The Men From the Boys (1997). He and his husband, Dr. Timothy D. Huber (b 1963), a psychotherapist, have made their Provincetown home here since 1997.
