But just about everyone understands that when folks in Provincetown speak of the Back Shore, they refer to the vast and rugged country that faces the Atlantic Ocean — and takes the brunt and beauty of it. Its principal human-made features are the dune shacks, each one of which is chronicled individually in the following entries.
