Pilgrims’ Landing gateposts.

Two pairs of monumental concrete pylons with bronze insets that were almost certainly the work of William J. Boogar Jr. — given the elegantly voluptuous letter forms — announce to passers-by that they have arrived at the commanding peak of the Cape tip, once known as Paynes Hill. Boogar is also credited by the monograph Residence of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Murchison, Provincetown, Massachusetts with a sundial “depicting the legendary race between the tortoise and the hare” that stood at the southeast corner of the property. As of 2014, it was a ruin.
