John Whorf (1785-1854).
John III and his wife, Rebecca Snow (1785-1832), stand at the head of the Whorf line that leads in our time to the celebrated watercolorist John Whorf, their great-great-grandson; the painters Nancy Whorf Kelly and Carol Whorf Westcott (their great-great-great-granddaughters); and the writer Amy Whorf McGuiggan, author — among other things — of Provincetown’s Historic Cemeteries and Memorials. Whorf’s unsentimental epitaph: “Death poised his dart, the deed is done, / His life is spent, his glass is run.”
