Benjamin Lancy Jr. [II] (1810-1859) and Nabby Cook Lancy (1812-1896) | Hamilton.
The second generation of the Lancy family included Nabby Cook, for whom — as some stories tell it — her son Benjamin Lancy [III] (1847-1923) built the imposing mansion at 230 Commercial Street. It represents a pinnacle of Second Empire (or Addams Family) style. Town legend, never quieted, has it that Nabby’s body was allowed to remain in her bedroom for three months in 1896, as her son did not want to try to bury her in winter. [Lot No. 6.]
