Lawrence S. “Larry” Richmond (1909-1978) purchased 38 Commercial Street in 1947 and razed the triple-decker house that had belonged to Jessie G. Cuyler, and to the Small family before her. “But he had the local carpenters use the salvageable building materials (it was after the war and materials were scarce) to build a screened porch and garage/attic” for his home at 40 Commercial Street, his daughter, Lauren Richmond, recalled.
