Longtime home of one of the town’s Perry families, 5 Carnes Lane was called out for mention in 1976 by John D. Bell for the Massachusetts Historical Commission survey. He said the original home was constructed circa 1870, with a kitchen annex added in 1946. “House is fairly typical small dwelling built during immigration of Portuguese fishermen from the Azores Islands,” Bell wrote. “Like many other houses in this neighborhood, it was built close to one side of its lot, leaving open space on the other side for small gardens where food was raised. Its rooms are tiny by modern standards. Addition of kitchen annex permitted installation of stove, refrigerator, etc.; it was and is the family dining room.” Peter Perry (b ±1921), a foreman, was the owner at the time. The Perrys sold the property in 2016 to Robert Wotiz and Howard H. Lizotte of Boston.
