Our Summer Place | Former salt shed.
As part of Our Summer Place, Margaret and Donald Murphy rent out a comfortable two-story former salt shed — transplanted from Long Point — behind the main house. In the 1940s and ’50s, the tenants were Dr. Fred O. Nolte, the head of the German department at the University of Washington in St. Louis, and his wife. “The Noltes made the cottage livable,” Don Murphy said. One interesting element in its construction-by-accretion — so typical of Provincetown — is a wall plank stenciled “Hackley Art Gallery Muskegon,” forerunner of the Muskegon Museum of Art in Michigan.
