CCNS-RP Station I Boat House.jpg

(1910)

Race Point Life-Saving Station Stable.

This is one of two buildings that have served all three stations at this site: the Life-Saving Station, the Coast Guard Station, and now the National Park Service Ranger Station. It was constructed around 1888 as a stable for the Life-Saving Service. Some time before 1920, it was moved and turned into a boathouse by the Coast Guard. It is currently the Oversand Station, where seasonal and 7-day permits are issued for off-road vehicles and self-contained vehicles operating in the beaches of the Cape Cod National Seashore. The lookout cupola shown in the vintage postcard no longer exists.
