Capt Berties 00 Napi Halsall.jpg

(Circa 1907)

Captain Bertie was none other than Capt. Marion Perry, skipper of Rose Dorothea (pictured) when she won the Lipton Cup in 1907. The nickname came from his admiration of the boxer Robert “Bert” Keyes of Philadelphia, who won four big fights in 1907. The roadway was named in 1969.
