Hutchins Hapgood (1869-1944).
In its highly unusual way, the Hapgood marker sets a standard that historians and genealogists can only dream of: a four-generation family tree inscribed right into the stone! The chart begins with Hapgood, a newspaperman and author from Chicago, who met his wife, Neith Boyce (1872-1951), when they both worked with Lincoln Steffens. They were among the founders of the Provincetown Players. It descends from Hapgood and Boyce to their son Charles Hapgood (1904-1982) and his wife, Tamsin Hughes Hapgood (1906-1998); to their sons, Fred Hapgood (b 1942) and William Hapgood (b 1944), and their wives, Susan Heideman (b 1950) and Julie Schectecter (b 1951); and William’s sons, Todd Hapgood (1966-2002) and Scott Hapgood (b 1967). The Hapgoods themselves are buried in Petersham, Mass.
