James Wingate Parr (1923-1969).
Though Parr painted shoreline landscapes, he did so with a dark and disturbing undertone, using a palette reminiscent of Ivan Albright’s, yielding strangely affecting scenes. On the side, he helped decorate the Old Colony Tap in the 1950s. He taught in Provincetown and at the Vesper George School of Art in Boston, but did not live past his mid-40s. A footstone marks his grave.
