Max Bohm (1868-1923).

The Grand View “cottage” in the far East End was the summer home of the painter Max Bohm, who studied with Jean-Paul Laurens at the Académie Julian in Paris and remained an expatriate until World War I. He lived here beginning in 1916, and died here. His wife, Zella (Newcomb) Bohm (1908-1957), also an artist, summered here until a year before her death. Their daughter Elizabeth “Betty” (Bohm) Schwarz (1908-1999), a poet, was the next grande dame of Grand View and an early preservationist, too. They are buried together with other members of the family around an especially handsome Arts-and-Crafts-style monument.
