Eddie Atkins (1840s) | Hamilton.
A couple of happily alert dogs are to be found in the municipal cemeteries — at the graves of Hildegard M. (Dertz) Sylvia (1924-2009) and Capt. Gamaliel Bowly Smith (1812-1888), for instance. But this poignant creature marks the tombstone of a young boy, the son of William A. Atkins (1818-1897), who is seen perpetually at rest, curled in the dog’s gentle folds. [Lot No. 48.]
